Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella Review

Each of the three television production of Rodgers & Hammerstein "Cinderella" has little to recommend: the original is Julie Andrews' voice beautiful and gentle charm and a great supporting cast. In 1960 remake is a classic, romantic example of this decade, musicals such as videos. This 1997 version has more sophisticated production values and the three – by far – the best screenplay and character development.

For example, is the only version in which Cinderella and I thoughtPrince had nothing in common and are conceivable in love, falling faster. AND Alert (Spoiler:) I like the fact that in this production, recognizes them * before * putting the shoe on the foot. I always wondered why Cinderella would be like a man, unable to recognize marriage only with their shoe size. Here he clearly like them in many ways. The stepmother and other supporting roles, character development here more than in previous versions allowed 75 minutes.

Brandy isimmensely charming in the title role, and his personality makes for a certain lightness in his voice. Paolo Montalban looks, sounds and acts every bit the prince. Whitney Houston makes a strong fairy godmother, and Bernadette Peters is fantastic, as the bitter, harsh scenario gum.

I like most of Rob Marshall's choreography. The waltz is beautiful, and danced the staging of other numbers show, wit and grace. But the break dance developed in the middle ofJason Alexander's song "The prince has a ball is" endless, derivatives and does not contribute to the film.

In short, although the tone is different from previous productions, this remake stands up well on her condition.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella Overview

A prince, a pumpkin, a glass slipper … history’s most enduring fairy tale returns with a thoroughly modern twist! Beautifully produced and featuring an all-star cast, RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA shimmers to life in the most spectacular production ever of the classic musical — including three additional Rodgers & Hammerstein songs exclusive to this special Disney presentation! Pop sensation Brandy (TV’s MOESHA) stars as the beautiful Cinderella, who suffers the torment of her wicked stepmother (Bernadette Peters) and spoiled stepsisters. Cinderella dreams of the impossible — going to the ball and dancing with the prince. Her impossible dream is realized when her fairy godmother (Whitney Houston) teaches her that with positive thinking and belief in yourself, “impossible things happen every day!” Also starring Jason Alexander (TV’s SEINFELD) and Whoopi Goldberg (SISTER ACT), Disney’s sparkling new version of RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA promises to be an instant classic. Now you can relive the magic anytime you wish!

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince’s mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Originally released as Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. –Rochelle O’Gorman

In Love and War Review

Although I have seen this movie twice and I really enjoyed it both times, I think I can understand some of the negative reactions from some viewers (and critics). Some of the criticism is based on the muted form in which Sandra Bullock plays Agnes (not with the personality of the historical figure) and the last scene, which really was not the case. That is, many products allegedly based on real events Take incredible deviation from historical reality, as theacclaimed "Saving Private Ryan" for the screen with thrilling action and terrific performances all fills, but creates a myth that all but two died in a troop of people and the search for Saving Private Ryan. So even as a historian and enthusiast of World War I found the start, in this case is not so drastic and the performance of Sandra Bullock, someone I like on the big screen, in a subdued and somber role, not only different and refreshing but perhaps more interesting andattractive choice, by Sir Richard Attenborough. I could be wrong, but I think some of the critics and reviewers just wanted to see Sandra Bullock in a distinctive role and brave, quite simply, a film with far more action.

In Love and War Specifications

This disastrous 1996 film by Sir Richard Attenborough was meant to be part of his informal series of movies about great men, including Gandhi, Chaplin, Cry Freedom (the Steven Biko story), and Shadowlands (C.S. Lewis). In Love and War is a recounting of young Ernest Hemingway’s World War I love affair with Red Cross nurse Agnes von Kurowsky, who was eight years older than he and who became the basis for the Catherine Barkley character in A Farewell to Arms. O’Donnell is terrible, in a word, and Bullock mostly seems out of sorts when playing someone real. Except for the scene in which Hemingway is introduced, fearlessly making his way to a trench under heavy bombardment, you have no idea that this person O’Donnell “portrays” will eventually change the direction of American literature. For a much better experience, look toward Attenborough’s previous works. –Tom Keogh

The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition) Review

I have no critical overview of this film. It 's ridiculous to think that a film so wonderful as the first – and I do not. With this out of the way, had my niece (3 years) our first visit that evening. I bought the original film on DVD earlier this week for her and she saw three or four times (yes, she spends much time out-of-doors). My wife remained in England because of the Icelandic volcano that all aircraft on the ground. I was depressed as previouslytoday and went to Best Buy for Business-CD (included with The Clash – London Calling). Anyway, I saw this sequel and vaguely reminiscent of the theatrical release a few years earlier. I decided that buying a little 'something my granddaughter has been certainly a way to revive spirits stateside. I was not mistaken. We enjoyed it. No, it is surprising how Jungle Book (Original). How could it perhaps should be so wonderful – most of the original players are long dead.Somehow, with the exception of King Louie (a figure which, incidentally, has nothing to do with racist stereotypes), they managed to come very close votes. The story is built a little 'than the original. remain, however, by a skeptic (looking away from sequels, not designed over the original story) and a big fan of the first film, this was damn good, we loved – and I am sure that I am his desire to make over and over again to get the love for a while '!

The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition) Specifications

After a delightful opening, in which jungle boy Mowgli (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) recaps much of the original Jungle Book in a sprightly shadow puppet show, The Jungle Book 2 swiftly turns into a carbon copy of the splendidly swinging previous movie. After his old pal Baloo the bear (voiced by John Goodman) draws Mowgli away from the man-village, with all its work and rules, and back into the glorious indolence of the jungle, the movie repeats–in a less energetic form–an encounter with Kaa the snake, the cockney vultures, a musical number at the monkey’s palace, the menace of Shere Khan the tiger, and even the song “The Bare Necessities.” The only difference is that there’s a girl named Shanti along for the ride; sadly, her character is so bland that it doesn’t do much to justify the movie’s existence. –Bret Fetzer
